Hi Verne8, I've never looked at the verse with the time frame in mind; that is interesting. I can't really speak to that. However, when you talk about praying for a specific person or situation that the Spirit is bringing to your mind, Romans 8:27 comes to mind. The idea is that we are always praying in the Spirit. What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? A Pentecostal might say that we should speak in tongues in a prayer language. That is outside my experience and I can not speak to that. To me, praying in the Spirit as it relates to Ephesians 6 is praying to the Lord, and not to men. That is, seeking the will of God from the heart. It means like Ephesian 6:10 says, "Finally, be strong in the (Lord), and in the strength of His might." A passage that I cross reference "praying at all times in the Spirit" to is 1 Peter 3:18b, "in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit." And 1Peter 4:2, "so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God." And 1 Peter 4:6, "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the *Spirit according to the will of (God.)" Romans 8:26, "And in the same way the (Spirit) also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." Verse 28,"according to (His) purpose. So we should pray in the Spirit looking to know His ways, and His will and purpose. From the heart, Ray |

Thanks, Ray... To me Romans 8:26 is what it means to pray in the Spirit. Since only the Spirit knows the heart of God we must rely on Him to teach us to pray as we should. When we discern in our inner self His leading, then we can pray with confidence. Thanks so much for the reply. It was excellent incite. Be blessed.....Verne |
