1 | Defense or offense? | Eph 6:10 | Mommapbs | 36257
In this passage (Ephesians 6:10-20) it is interesting to note that we are told to STAND (v 11,13) Also, as I look at this in light of Paul's charge to Timothy in 2 Tim 1:14, "Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you." It appears again that our posture is one of DEFENSE. Are there any commands in Scripture where believers are instructed to GO and fight offensively? |

2 | Defense or offense? | Eph 6:10 | zach† | 36344
Mommapbs; Eph. 6 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (we are to get dressed for battle, we are in a spiritual battle) In 2 Tim. we are referred to as soldiers 2 Tim. 2:3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 12 For we wrestle (wrestle indictaes struggle, real not imaginative) not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; (Stand, histemi in the Greek, I believe refers to stand prepared and ready, not stand still and do nothing. If we only pray, then that is at least something that all believers should do. See verse 18) 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Paul, said: 1 Tim. 6:12 FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. 2 Tim. 4:7 I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: If Paul fought the good fight, shouldn't we follow his example? Paul also said: 2 Cor. 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE ARE NOT CARNAL, BUT MIGHTY THROUGH GOD to the pulling down of strong holds;) The spiritual battle we are in requires that we have spiritual weapons, such as the word of God, and prayer, and faith. Even in the book of Hebrews we read of those who waged a spiritual battle and were commended for it. Heb 11:32 ¶ And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: 33 Who through faith SUBDUED KINGDOMS, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, WAXED VAILANT IN FIGHT, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. I believe we ought to allow God to lead us into battle, and as He goes before us, and as we trust Him for the victory, He will bring it about. I think of the hymn. "Onward Christian Soldiers" Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war. With the cross of Jesus, going on before. Christ the royal Master, leads against the foe; Forward into battle, see His banner go. Like a mighty army, moves the church of God; Brothers we are trodding, where the saints have trod. Just a few thoughts Grace and Peace zach† |
