1 | Is the bride of christ the church? | Eph 5:32 | Emmaus | 144481
Sam, The Church is the New Jerusalem. When we become members of the Church, we become citizens of the heavenly Jerusalem. Through our worship, prayers, and works in Christ we participate in the heavenly life. Similarly we refer to "Church" simultaneously as the structure and the people who are in the structure. So it is with the Bride, the Church, the New Jerusalem Phil 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; Emmaus |

Sorry again fellow believers but no one has given any scripture, which says that the bride of Christ is the church. All comments have been understandings, interpretations, methaphors and conclusions. On the other hand several comments have identified scriptures stating the church as the body of Christ. In my opinion, a part of the confusion is the post KJV translations of Ephesians 5: 25 - 26 where the pronoun "it" referring to the church has been changed to the gender word "her". Example, compare KJV and NAS KJV Eph:5 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for "it"; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse "it" with the washing of water by the word, NAS:Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for "her", 5:26 so that He might sanctify "her", having cleansed "her" by the washing of water with the word, Other post-KJV translations have a similar change. I note that the city Jerusalem in Rev 19 – 21 is described as the bride and NOT the church so why the conclusion that it’s the church and thus the bride of Christ? My conclusion is that the church is the body of Christ because the Bible says so in several places. The church is not the bride of Christ. I know that you cannot be the body and bride and represent all members(male and female). Perhaps someone can look at the original Hebrew of Ephesians 5. Finally fellow believers, I agree to disagree on this one since it is not central to saving souls for the kingdom. Grace and peace to all. |

3 | Is the bride of christ the church? | Eph 5:32 | Morant61 | 144568
Greetings Sam! I happen to agree that the church is never directly called the 'Bride of Christ'. :) However, in Eph. 5:25 'church' is feminine in gender, as is the pronoun describing the church. So, 'her' would be the appropriate translation of the Greek. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | Is the bride of christ the church? | Eph 5:32 | Hank | 144580
Hi, Tim :::: In Revelation 22:17 in the construction, "the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!'" to whom does "the bride" refer? .... If in 21:9 John in calling the new Jerusalem "the bride, the Lamb's wife" means only the city itself and not its inhabitants -- the redeemed: hence, the church -- then he must mean something quite different in 22:17 when he writes that "the Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!'" It can't mean just the city itself: cities can't talk. I submit it is the church which John has in mind here. These passages along with Jesus' parable of the marriage feast in Matthew 22 all lead one to make a very strong inference that the bride of Christ is the church. You're a keen exegete, Tim, and I'd like you to enlarge on these passages a bit more if you will. --Hank
5 | Is the bride of christ the church? | Eph 5:32 | Morant61 | 144599
Greetings Hank! The key to my previous post is that I said 'directly'! ;-) I believe that one can make a case that the church is the Bride of Christ, but it is by implication only. So, I wouldn't disagree with your points. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
