1 | Is plygamy right in God's eyes? | Eph 5:25 | AKG-pa | 222427
A man who lived as a polygamist and then decided that God did not want him to live that way still believes polygamy is right in God's eyes. He and his family joined our fellowship through deceit. That's another story. He says that 1st Timothy 3;2 and 12 are translated wrong. That originally it was translated to read that the man was to still be married to his first wife, signifying that if he had more than one wife he must still be married to the original. This doesn't seem right to me, is it? Besides, if our Maker wanted us to have multiple wives, why did He make only Eve? Thank you and God Bless

Scripture ... 1 Timothy 3:2 An overseer, then, must ... be the husband of one wife God's day to you, AKG-pa, In the Greek it is mia gunaiko andra ... which is one woman man. We use husband and wife in place of man and woman. NAS Word Usage for the word translated one is: agreement 1, alike* 1, alone 3, common 1, detail 1, first 9, individual 2, individually* 1, lone 1, man 1, nothing* 1, one 282, one another 1, one man 2, one* thing 5, one 2, person 1, single 1, smallest 1, someone 2, thirty-nine* 1, unity 1 ... for a Total: 321 (based on my Strong's) He is using the wrong verses anyway. 1 Timothy 3:2 and 12 are about the leaders of the church. I believe husbands and wives in Ephesians 5:25 are singular nouns. So he can't use that verse either. There was polygamy in the Bible, including David (2 Sam 5:13) ... but it doesn't make it right.
