The Bible does not prohibit a glass of wine. But,not to drunkedness and not if you are a leader in the Church, then the answer is no. Don't interpret that to mean a hard drink, that is prohibited. There are other references. |

1faith1: I've never found anything in scripture that prohibits having wine (I am not referring to elder qualifications.. I'm assuming you aren't one), only being intoxicated (Eph 5:18). However, when in doubt, don't! I encourage you to study Romans 14. To sum up what I'm getting at - if you think it is a sin and do it anyway, for you it is a sin. I've struggled with that regarding more than one issue, including this one. My advice would be to pray about it a lot and study scripture on it. If you're in doubt, I wouldn't do it until you're confident you're not sinning. G. Preston: I am curious about your statement, "Don't interpret that to mean a hard drink, that is prohibited." I was hoping you could provide the scripture you're referencing, please. |

Sorry for delay. From an analysis of the Bible on drinking.. I offer a partial quote for your review; ....."Drunkenness is condemned in the Bible Isaiah 5,11, Proverbs 23,20, Romans 13,13, Galatians 5,19,21, Ephesians 5,18 Drunkards will not inherit the Kingdom of God 1 Corinthians 6,9,10 The fact is that the Bible clearly condemns drunkenness. Drunkenness is a serious matter. 2. The Bible condemns strong drink Proverbs 20,1, Isaiah 5,11, Proverbs 23,29,30,31 What was strong drink in Bible times? Distillation was not discovered until about 1500 A.D. Strong drink and unmixed wine in Bible times was from 3 to 11 percent alcohol. Therefore, since anybody in biblical times who drank unmixed wine (9-11 percent alcohol) was definitely considered a barbarian, then it is obvious that a Christian should not drink hard liquor at all. Christians should not drink strong drink. Since wine has 9 to 11 percent alcohol and one brand 20 percent alcohol, you should not drink that. Brandy contains 15 to 20 percent alcohol and hard liquor has 40 to 50 percent alcohol (80 to 100 proof), and that is obviously excluded...." There are many references to drink/wine in both the Old and New Testaments. A procedure I began several years ago was to select a topic and peruse the Bible and note any reference to the chosen topic. While I was gathering all the Bible had to say about that topic...I found a overall improvement of my Bible understanfding. Let me know If need for further response to your question...I will try to be more prompt. \ |
