1 | alcohol scripturally wrong? | Eph 5:18 | DocTrinsograce | 203689
Hi, Hoppy... I have had the pleasure of taking communion with brethren who encouraged the use of wine in their observance. In almost every case they also offered grape juice for those whose conscience made it difficult to imbibe even a small amount of wine. I always thought that that was especially kind and compassionate. My post was pretty clear, I think, in that I was speaking of how I -- individually and particularly -- dealt with the question in my own life. If it wasn't clear, then I hope that this paragraph makes it so. Just because a thing is lawful, doesn't always make it prudent. Nevertheless, it is likely that I am simply the weaker brother. Perhaps the Lord will see fit to bring me to a greater maturity in His own time. In Him, Doc |

3 | alcohol scripturally wrong? | Eph 5:18 | DocTrinsograce | 203692
Dear Hoppy, Perhaps they are cultural. That fact doesn't free me to live contrary to my conscience -- I am what I am by God's providence. Furthermore, I either stand or fall before the Lord (Romans 14:1-4) -- and I'll do it all by myself. Neither would I dissuade you, my brother, for your eating or drinking, when you do so with a clear conscience. May God be glorified in your liberty, and may He be glorified in my abstinence (Romans 14:6). I find nothing in Scripture from which we might definitively bind one another's conscience. Let's simply live to keep our own, individual conscience clear. In Him, Doc |
