1 | what is the scripture Paul quotes here? | Eph 5:14 | Scandinavian Disciple | 42019
Does anybody know, what is the scripture Paul quotes here? I read an article some time ago, where it was told to be a quotation from "a book now lost" - "Hebrew apocalypse of Elijah". But the author of that article wasn't sure of this.

You answered your question by posting the verse the Amplified NASB gives the cross reference Isa 26:19 Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead. Isa 60:1 ΒΆ Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. Isa 60:2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. Paul did not qoute from any book of Elijah becuase Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit and would not quote from false books that were not scripture. Some people even think that Jude quoted from the "book of Enoch" but what happened is that some false teachers wrote a book to make it sound like the Enoch wrote it bassed on what they had read Jude say. The false book of Enoch is qouting Jude not Jude qouting the false book. God bless you in the study of His Word. |

Hello Scribe About your comment: "Paul was inspired by the Holy Spirit and would not quote from false books that were not scripture" What about the uninspired poets Paul quoted in Acts 17:28 and Titus 1:12? Are these somehow different? Steve |

This Greek "Nestle-Aland" NT tells us; Acts 17:28 "Aratus, Phaenomena 5" Titus 1:12 "Epimenides, de oraculis" "..uninspired..", don't know about that, our God is so powerful He can use "the heathen" to do His will - take for an example Cyrus in the book of Ezra. However no mention of the quotation on Ephesians 5:14 - that's why I asked if someone knows. And I myself doubt it's from a song, as it is greek "legei" ("tell") - not "sing". |
