Hi, Momma... Wicca is a polytheistic neo-pagan religion. It was kind of thrown together based on guesses about the nature of various pre-Christian western European pagan religions. Their main deity is a mother goddess. They practice things like herbal magic and witchcraft. Frankly, I think they are loony tunes. :-) In Him, Doc |

Doc - Looney? Perhaps not when the objective of their practices is to do things to please their dieties. In the same way, could Christians be accused of being "looney?" Is our desire to please God? Perhaps instead of calling these folks "looney tunes" it would be better to focus on the sad reality: they are lost! This alone should raise our level of concern about sharing the Gospel. (Which would definitely please our God!) mommapbs (I'm not the author of the original question) |

Dear Momma, Sorry... I should have been a bit more explicit. I agree they are lost. However, they have lost contact with reality, denying even the relative clarity of modern naturalism. Instead, without any basis in what is actually known about ancient pagan beliefs, they embrace an imaginary religions that they *say* are ancient. Perhaps I should have used the adjective harebrained, ludicrous, nonsensical, quixotic, kooky, or tetched? No... I still think looney tunes is best. :-) (Is that word spelled looney or loony?) You wrote, "Could Christians be accused of being 'looney?'" The word "could" implies that your question is meant to ask if there might is a reason by which the epithet might be applied to believers. Since Christians, by God's grace, are more firmly rooted in reality than the rest of humanity, then I'd think not. Christians have not believed cleverly devised philosophies, imaginative tales, or the dreams of lunatics. Instead, we believe in the testamony of many dependable witnesses. In Him, Doc |

OK let's forget the word looney or loony - Perhaps you misunderstood my question. Although we don't agree with Wiccan "theology", (and there is no comparison), but strange as it may seem, it appears that they take their beliefs seriously. Seriously enough to perform all sorts of rituals that we find harebrained, ludicrous, nonsensical, quixotic, kooky, or tetched. (1 Cor 3:19) To them, perhaps our beliefs are the same. (1 Cor 1:18-25; 2:14)I just wonder how seriously some believers are about their faith. |

Dear Momma, I don't think I'd call Wicca the "wisdom of the world." I don't think the world would even call them that! :-) I would posit that anyone who claims to be a believer but does not take it seriously is not saved at all. "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it." (Luke 9:23-24) In Him, Doc |
