1 | was kiss customary greeting v handshake | Gal 2:9 | AlisonKay | 160644
Matt26:40-49 Betrayal of Jesus by Judas with a kiss -- I teach a jr. high sunday school class -- this was part of last week's lesson -- some of the kids were "grossed out" by the "kiss". I explained that I believed that "handshake" was not a greeting at this time. That the "kiss" was a customary greeting between close friends and/or family. I would like to verify this. Can anyone help? Thanks

A kiss appears to be a common greeting rather than a handshake but maybe someone else can explain what the "right hand of fellowship" spoke of in Galatians 2:9 was. Luke 7:45 "You gave Me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss My feet. Acts 20:37 And they began to weep aloud and embraced Paul, and repeatedly kissed him, Rom 16:16 Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you. Cor 16:20 All the brethren greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. Cor 13:12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. Thess 5:26 Greet all the brethren with a holy kiss. Pet 5:14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ. Gal 2:9 and recognizing the grace that had been given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we might go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. |
