1 | Paul discourages marriage? | 1 Cor 7:1 | ngkh | 142087
In NIV, Paul wrote 1 Corinthian 7:1-2 1Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry.[a] 2But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. Did he meant that we should not marry since "it is good not to marry" but we can compromise and marry because of our immoral self and is this the reason why catholic priests and brothers are not allowed to marry? |

2 | Paul discourages marriage? | 1 Cor 7:1 | DocTrinsograce | 142093
Hi, Ngkh... Paul only meant that without a spouse, a single person can devote directly more time and energy to service to the Lord than is possible for a married person. Celebacy become an error of the church after the time of the apostles. You will find Paul predicting exactly this in 1 Timothy 4:1-5. Sounds pretty familiar, doesn't it? In Him, Doc PS You have been visiting the forum for a couple of months. Why don't you tell us a little about yourself in your profile? :-) |

3 | Priests not allowed to marry | 1 Cor 7:1 | ngkh | 142329
Hi Doc, Thanks for your input. I'm ever more confused. If Paul meant that without a spouse, the person can serve the Lord better thus the Catholic priests and brothers are not wrong to remain unmarried as they have sworn to priesthood or brotherhood following Paul in 1 Corinthian 7, but they contradict 1 Timothy 4 which assumed that they are deceived by demons just because they are not allowed to marry. BTW, I have updated the profile but I don't really know what info is required. God Bless |
