1 | Obesity? | 1 Cor 6:19 | biblicalman | 228315
yes, avoidable obesity, that not caused by a medical condition, is living in sin. it is a symptom of greed. it is not 'keeping under our whole body'. and tattoos are the same. and so are extravagant clothes. the verse covers everything we do that is dishonouring to the Lord. |

2 | Obesity? | 1 Cor 6:19 | justme | 228326
Biblicalman: I think this type of judgement leads to legalism. How many square feet of house is geting greedy? Is 1200 sq ft to large for two people? How many pair of shoes should one person have, and not be considered greedy? Should a person trade in their vehicle every two or three years, or drive it beyone 200,000 miles? Is eating out at Wendy's better than eating at a fancy stake house with special guests? What should a Pastor get paid, at the low wage or the avrage church members wage, or higher than the higest? How many Scripture verses can I read and still feel it's enough? Most people in the world don't have a car, two pair of shoes, a house with a tolet, money in their pocket, food that will last beyond the next day, and a Bible of their own. When we make judgements that cast a doubt on a fellow brother or sister that we are stepping in where the Holy Spirit works. Let's work at encouraging each other to grow in the Lord and let the Lord work on areas that are sensitive and may cause a person to become so hurt, and they drop out. I am not talking about sin that needs to be confronted. Often those who have overcome a problem want others who have the same problem to overcome the problem as they did. Shame is used to show off how great a victory they have won. Smoking, weight loss seem to be the ones that are the sins we notice first. Maybe removing the log in our eye first is best followed first. Blessings. justme |

3 | Obesity? | 1 Cor 6:19 | biblicalman | 228334
The questioner specifically asked whether we saw obesity as a sin. And yes, I do see obesity as a sin. Are you then suggesting that I should evade the truth? Are you denying that obesity is due to a lack of self-control? I am sorry but I consider that it is our responsibility as pastors and teachers to guide people aright, and that we will be called to account for not doing so. I would be wary of judging an individual, but I have no hesitation in declaring obesity to be a sin unless it is due to a medical condition. As to tattoos and ultra-fine clothes, the latter were condemned by Paul, and the former is another evidence of self indulgence, to say nothing of a sign of vanity. A Christian being tattooed also gives a wrong impression about Christianity. It suggests concern for one's own vanity rather than for the needs of others. When we are asked on the forum what our view is on such things it is our responsibility to give an honest view. I do not want to face the Master and explain why I failed to draw attention to men's besetting sins simply because I was afraid of what others would think. You may of course view things as you will. I see myself as having a responsibility to direct men's thoughts aright. They are of course quite able to disagree if they wish. I will pass no judgment on them for that. In the end I am only responsible for myself and what I teach. Best wishes. |

4 | Obesity? | 1 Cor 6:19 | justme | 228340
Biblicalman: I have reread my two posts. I made too much about the feelings of some hurting believers I am dealing with now. You are certainly correct in what you have said. I have seem one person who overcame smoking and being overweight. Now that person sees no reason for anyone to be obese or for anyone to smoke. This person now has become so obnoxious. The true test is that of how long a person can stay an overcomer. I sincerely see I was a real pain, and I regret being so harsh. Please accept my sincere apology. Blessings |

Hi justme, thank you for your apology which is gladly accepted. We both share the same dilemma. How to be tough on sin and yet compassionaten with the sinner, a word that includes ourselves. We have to be aware of our own failures first. Best wishes |
