1 | How "mature" in Christ are we today? | 1 Cor 3:1 | terrib | 110815 | ||
Greetings, As in all growth and wisdom we each mature at a pace that we are willing. (Phi 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. ) We would have to take your question as rhetorical. For one can only look at oneself and the surroundings (which would include family, congregation, friends and the circles that one associates with) that we allow and are in. And as John wrote to the seven churches in Revelations about their state of affairs, we are not without fault. I must say though, Paul would probably not be so polite toward us as he was with the younger churches. (Luk 12:48 KJV) ... For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. Luk 17:5 The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" Thank you, terrib. Your comment "As in all growth and wisdom we each mature at a pace that we are willing" seems to mean that our spiritual growth is "up to us" rather than, as our "physical being" is UP to Him. When I finally became old enough to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a police officer like my uncle, I was still two inches too short. Then when you wrote that Paul wouldn't be so polite towards us - OUCH! I've been wondering why others seem to be maturing at a faster clip than I am. Just like when I was a kid, some younger ones grew bigger faster. Maybe instead of asking the Lord to increase my faith - I need to exercize the faith I have. Thank you for the exhortation. TommyS |

Hello TommyS, Jesus said: Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. A true meaning of this "mansions" could be the word "placements" or "positions". In my Father's house are many places (because of individual gifts that I have bestowed upon My creation and each person is an individual and I will take him into My house and place him where he will best fit). As Paul states: Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. "by that which every joint supplieth" equals what gifts we have. "effectual working in the measure of every part" equals using what God gave us. Our Father knows our rate of growth and He will lead us (not push) to the next level. The disciples ate and drank and lived with God for three years and some of them still didn't know exactly who He was. Don't be hard on yourself and don't do too much self diagnostics for there is one out there that would enjoy in getting us turned inward thus making us to forget our first love. We would call that worshipping the creature more than the Creator. All things have there time and we can not judge ourselves by looking at someone else, because we are all different. Enjoy the day and say "This is the day the Lord hath made, I will be glad and rejoyce in it". Joh 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in Me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. Don't sweat the small stuff, terrib |

Thank you terrib, for the most encouraging words. I seem to be further away now than when I started this journey. And this portion of my life seems to be more desert than anything. I truly appreciate the words that He gave you for me tonight. TommyS |

Greetings Brother TommyS, You wrote, "And this portion of my life seems to be more desert than anything." Well, you are in Great company! Many of the Lord's greatest works were in that desert place. Consider Moses, the exhortation of Isaiah, our Lord Himself and the children of Israel: Exo 3:1 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. Deu 32:10 He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. Isa 35:1, 2 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose. It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the LORD, and the excellency of our God. Isa 35:6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. Isa 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Mar 6:31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. Joh 6:31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. These are just a few of times in the desert, for in the desert are few distractions and we can hear better. The desert keeps us lean and ready. Without the desert we become Jeshurun: Deu 32:15 But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation. Bless your desert and keep true, God is doing a work! terrib |
