1 | Apostles, Prophets? An Office for Today? | 1 Cor 1:1 | gracefull | 74190 | ||
A delegate, messenger, one sent forth with orders. a specifically applied to the twelve apostles of Christ. b. in a broader sense applied to other eminent Christian teachers. 1. Barnabas 2. Timothy I submit that there most likely are 'God called apostles' today but because traditional church government does not acknowledge the office are defined by other titles. The title does not preceed the calling. The same Greek word in Ephesians is used in 1 Corinthians. Here is my conclusion.. The 'foundation of the prophets and apostles is the Word, the testimony, the Spirit revealed truth, and not the apostles themselves. They were the vessels chosen to carry the word, the messengers. The Word of God is our foundation and Jesus is the chief cornerstone. God bless. |
