1 | "women keep silent in the churches" | 1 Cor 14:34 | prayon | 58830 | ||
From Scribes comment: "it seems that there is just as much here to say a man cannot speak either. For twice the pronoun "He" is told to keep silent in the church and only once it says a woman should keep silent." ...Your comments? In the Corithian church the men were seated at the front and the women were way in the back. There were no sound systems like they have today, so the apostle would speak, and the women would yell up to their husbands, "What did he say?" This was disrupting the meeting, so Paul instructed for the men to relay the information to the women at home. Galatians 3:28 makes it clear that "in Christ" there is neither male nor female. So this must mean then that some of the people "in Christ" are not allowed to teach others about Him when God tells us specifically in Joel 2:28 that in the end times He "will pour out His Spirit on ALL flesh; your sons and your daughters will prophecy.....Even on the male and female slaves in those days, will I pour out my spirit". So I must assume that some of those that God pours out His spirit on must remain quiet? Luke 2:36 speaks of a prophetess named Anna. One role of a prophet is to speak into the lives of other believers. It is doubtful that the apostle Paul would be saying to silence Anna, or other female believers who had something to contribute. (A previous contribution to the forum.) If it truly was fact that women were not supposed to preach and teach I wonder how many of our brothers and sisters would still be lost in sin.......God can and will use all people in all places. Your comments? prayon |

I understand Galatians 3:28 to mean that both male and female belong together in one church of Jesus Christ. To take it to mean that there is no longer any sexual difference is reading in what is not there. There would be no mother and father roles. If we had to take the "all one", as it is misapplied, it would lead to an extreme woman's lib position. It would also be saying that God made a mistake in giving the different sexes different gifts and personalities. It would be saying that the Gospel does away with the distinctives that God created. To quote this verse in the discussion of church order is to take it out of context. However, I think that some weight should be given to 1 Corinthians 11:5 which allows a woman to prophecy when she displays the sign of authority. Although some feel that the latter context is outside a church service, the matter of authority is definitely in view. Seeking fo balance. |

Greetings Ronaldo, I agree, all those who are one in Christ are one with each other. It doesn't matter whether one is male or female - we are all one in Christ Jesus. I in no way promote women's lib where God's word is concerned. (I do however support women's lib in equal pay for the same job ect. :o) ) All flesh in Joel 2:28 does indicates all people will receive the Holy Spirit. One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is preaching/pastor. This gift can and is given to women. Unfortunetly, many women pastors were not given that gift, but then many men pastors weren't either. prayon |
