2 | WHAT DOES PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT MEAN? | 1 Cor 14:15 | Ray | 55015 | ||
Hi DianeDew, I think that the point to be made is that there is a difference between "spirit" and the "Spirit". The question as it is being posed to us in all capitals doesn't give us any clarity for your study either. Personally, if I were to pray in the Spirit, I would pray with the spirit. Paul with his mind, has written five words here in 1 Corinthians. They are all in lower case and are not speaking about the Spirit of God. Verse 2, "in his spirit he speaks mysteries. Verse 14, "my spirit prays". Verse 15, "I shall pray with the spirit...I shall sing with my spirit". Otherwise if you bless in [Or, with the] spirit only..." "five words Ray" typed into the search option will probably bring up some past discussions on this. John 6:63 says, "It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life." Please note the capitalization. The Son of Man who ascended is Spirit and His words are spirit and life. Our words are spirit also, I believe. With that thought in mind I would put spirit in lower case for 1 Corinthians 7:40. "But in my opinion she is happier if she remains as she is; and I think that I also have the spirit of God." 1 Corinthians 4:20, "For the kingdom of God does not consist in words,[word, NKJ] but in power. What do you desire? Shall I come to you with a rod or with love and a spirit of gentleness?" Do you find the five spirit words here? 1 Cor. 4:21-6:17. 1 Cor 6:17, "But the one who joins himself to the Lord/ is one spirit with Him." Galatians 3:20, "...God/ is only one." 1 Corinthians 2:7, "but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God/ predestined before the ages to our glory; the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would no have crucified the Lord of glory;..." 1 Cor 3:18, "Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become foolish that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God/." Romans 12:1, "I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God/, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship." From the heart, Ray |
