I gave a Sunday School lesson recently where I pretended I was successfully blessed with worldly knowledge where I wrote a couple books and gave 15,000 dollars to the poor however I showed in my skit where I was proud of my achievements I had a person hitting pan lids together to represent my sounds as tinkling cymbals being hit together. Then at the end of the skit I read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. It says in those verses that we are nothing if we talk good, give money to the poor and have knowledge if we do not have God's love. Does the passage refer to christians only or is it okay to refer that to nonChristians also. hopefully I am not being confusing I just want to make sure that nonChristians could apply 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 to them as well as Christians. thanks for your comments |

Hi Beana I think that the love paul is talking about is the godly kind of love we have in our hearts as believers in God and salvation in Christ. Paul is addressing the Corinthian Church, and it can be rightly assumed that they are Christians. Since I became a Christian, I have been able to love in ways I never imagined were posable. When God, by His Amazing grace, gave the wonderful gift of the Holly Spirit, that spirit dwelling in me has changed me quite profoundly. I can now love people that are pretty unlovable. People who only return that love with hatred, I can still pray for and forgive, and even try to help physically, in ways that the unbeliever cannot do. But I do not boast, it is not my love, but the love of God, which is a gift of God that is in me. We should try to remember too, that love is not a warm fuzzy feeling, though that is sometimes one of it's benefits. But true love is an action, a deliberate intended action to do good (even for our enemy) in spite of the fact that many of it's recipients are sometimes very unlovable. John |
