Hi Hank- Well Im wondering If you read my answer. If 70 other ordinary fellows were able to cast out devels, then what makes us any different than them, nothing other than time. Their are thousands througout the world that are walking in the office of profit and apostle today. I see many healed of all kinds of things today in american churches today. Here are two verses from scruptures which addresses your question. If Gods word is true today then dont we have the following postions working in the church? If we have evangelists, pastors and teachers, then we also have apostles and prophets. Eph 4:11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, Eph 4:12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ. Hi, royalone... The biggest problem that I see is the misslabeling of things. I have seen these so called "apostles" (a misnomer in itself) cast out "demons" that were clearly manifestations of the flesh. There are three forces we battle as believers: the world, the flesh, and the devil. If these folks don't even know Biblical doctrine sufficiently to distinguish between our enemies, it discredits all that they do. By the way, the apostles and prophets were given to the church. We have what they wrote speaking to us still through the Word. Yes, the odd group, like the Mormons, will adopt these titles. But that doesn't jibe with the way Paul used the terms, particularly in Ephesians 4. In Him, Doc |

John 14:12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Are we not believers today..what greater works was Jesus referring too? Matt 11:4 Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and report to John what you hear and see: Matt 11:5 the BLIND RECEIVE SIGHT and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the POOR HAVE THE GOSPEL PREACHED TO THEM.. Matt 11:6 "And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me." I believe Miracles today are to show Gods power to an unbeieving generation. Those who work in the miracle field will tell you that they like Jesus...Only hear and do what Jesus tells them.As well as obey Gods command to heal the sick from the Word. Im not saying that doing miracles like raising the dead happen everyday in America.I honestly believe that just like Jesus.. Matt 13:58 And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.Since in general Most churches offer lip service but see little of the miraculous. I would recommend a book to you that speaks of those throughout history from Jesus time forward to the present day, whom have done many miracles that have confounded the wise and built up the body of Christ. Author is John Crowder called The New Mystics. Fascinating reading. Have to go.. Van |

Hello royalone, I think you're mistaken with the interpretation of John 14:12! In short, I believe he was referring to the work of the Holy Spirit in the salvation of many souls! Salvation is a far greater "miracle' than any other- would you not agree? I think you're focus is on the gifts rather than on the Giver. Again, "...Christ is all and in all (Col. 3:11). I have to look at what are the greater works than these shall we do?? Jesus when about delivering all who were oppressed of the devil and did miracles everywhere he went. look at the earlier verse. 14:11 "Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe because of the works themselves. Yes believing and miracles together seemed to go hand in hand with Jesus. You cannot seperate salvation and what Jesus did,He is the total package which we are to follow today. You may say Im focusing on the gifts, Yes they are our example to follow and do. look at the following verse Rom 8:11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Honestly our goal is the same Eph 3:19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. I honestly am not a know it all or claim to have all the answers.Im just amazed at how many people have not been exposed to any kind of teaching on the miraculous. |

Hello royalone, I have read "Christ the Healer" by F.F. Bosworth. I wouldn't recommend it though. So, it’s not that I haven’t been exposed to the teaching. How many people are focused upon and exposed to the teaching of Christ crucified? It is Him we seek! You cannot develop a doctrine by simply picking verses from scripture and supporting a belief. This is called "proof-texting". None of the verses you show expressly say (or support) healing. This is called context. One cannot ignore this in their interpretation of scripture. Otherwise it's called eisegesis. Let me provide you with some sound support and sources that say different on John 14:12- 1. "His miracles the apostles wrought, though wholly in His name and by His power, and the “greater” works—not in degree but in kind—were the conversion of thousands in a day, by His Spirit accompanying them.' [Robert Jamieson, A. R. Fausset, A. R. Fausset et al., A Commentary, Critical and Explanatory, on the Old and New Testaments] 2. "Greater works. Not more remarkable miracles, but referring to the wider work of the apostolic ministry under the dispensation of the Spirit. This work was of a higher nature than mere bodily cures. Godet truthfully says: “That which was done by St. Peter at Pentecost, by St. Paul all over the world, that which is effected by an ordinary preacher, a single believer, by bringing the Spirit into the heart, could not be done by Jesus during His sojourn in this world.” Jesus’ personal ministry in the flesh must be a local ministry. Only under the dispensation of the Spirit could it be universal." [Marvin Richardson Vincent, Word Studies in the New Testament] 3. "14:12-14. The apostles would not necessarily do more stupendous miracles than Jesus did (e.g., feeding 5,000) but their outreach would be greater (e.g., Peter in one sermon had 3,000 converts). This was possible because Jesus had gone to the Father and had sent the Spirit. Miracles are important, but some evangelists have done even greater things than these by preaching the good news to many thousands of people." [John F. Walvoord, Roy B. Zuck and Dallas Theological Seminary, The Bible Knowledge Commentary ] Does your use and understanding of this verse line up with what other, enlightened by of God have concluded? As the apostle Paul wrote, "For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." (NASB) Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

How many people are focused upon and exposed to the teaching of Christ crucified? It is Him we seek! I whole heartly agree. To only seek Signs and wonders is unbalanced to say the least,But to exclude them is unbiblical as well. Matt 24:24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect. To your point.Amplified version. John 14:12 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father. The language is clear as any grade schooler can know and read the works of Jesus. He healed the sick, cast out demons, raised the dead. Why is it so impossible to believe that we could not do the same. This my point.Just because we dont see many miracles does not mean we should not attempt to do the works of Jesus. If Gods power does truly exist in each believer then why not do what he did. Are we always successful,no were not. Are we taught about the things of the spirit today. hardly,if any,no wonder our faith is so diminished. Thanks for your viewpoint. Van |

Dear Van, My friend, if you are not focused on Christ, and Him crucified, and preaching that, you have missed the point of scripture altogether. You have a long way to go if you are thinking you can save people by healing their bodies. It is the (spirit) of man that needs healing! What you are suggesting is nothing more then pious nonsense. And may I say, to seek signs and wonders at all, is scripturally off base. My young friend, I hope that you take the advice that is being offered to you here and get off this pious nonsense, as it does not win souls. (Only) the work of the Holly Spirit, in the hearts of men, that have heard the Word of the good news of Christ's work on the Cross, one sows seeds of faith, and others water, this, will get them saved! And may I say, that it is (your faith) that has diminished-!! Anyone who seeks signs and wonders, does (not) have faith in the gospel to save! Grow up my friend. I hope and pray that you receive this in the spirit in which it was intended and that is love for you as a fellow believer and love for the truth of and in God's Word. God bless my friend. John |
