1 | A distinction without a difference? | 1 Cor 12:10 | John Pilgrim | 115138 | ||
Dear Ed, please don't take my post as "gotcha!". My intention is to take this opportunity try to get you to see how it feels to have beloved doctrines suppressed and your own motives impugned by brothers who hold opposing pre-suppositions. The Pentecostal doctrine of tongues has been discussed very often on the forum. It could easily be said to reflect a pushing of a denominational bias. Don't get me wrong Ed, I respect your right to engage in whatever aspect of Scripture which you believe will glorify God and lead to knowing God as He has revealed Himself to in the Bible. What I want to know is this; Why was my topic on election subject to censure, yet your topic is not subject to the same? ID# 114949 "John The debate you seem bent on perpetuating has been ongoing for 500 years. Minds greater than ours have not been able to reconcile various scriptures on the subject to the satisfaction of both sides. So what is the point? Are we so prideful to think we have the answer? This topic has been discussed and re-discussed on this forum with no results other than anger and hurt feelings. Many a good contributor has left the forum over what has taken place in the name of this debate. In the name of Christian unity I ask you and all involved to refrain from further debate on this subject. EdB Please Ed, tell how the discussion of tongues is within the guidelines, but election is a violation of the same. In hope of a resolution, John |

John There are a few things I want you to think about. Up until this thread I don't think I mentioned tongues on this forum more than few times certainly less than a dozen times. I haven’t counted. While you might think you know my stance on manifestations of the Holy Spirit I’m sure you don’t have a total understanding because I have never completely given it on the forum. While I have discussed the issue if you read back in my posts they are more informational rather than argumentative or proclamational. It is not my sole topic for discussion nor do I drag every thread back to the issue of tongues. I do not write my responses on the issue of tongues to bait others into an argument. I have not made myself so odorous to others that Lockman was besieged with complaints. I have not been asked to cease and refused to do so. In the past when I have been shown to be in error I was quick to apologize and refrained from doing whatever again. I have not had my privileges revoked and then keep posting to a forum in direct violation of the agreement made when I first joined the forum. I have not come onto the forum using an alias to bypass Lockman's withdrawal of my forum privileges. I have not come on this forum using a alias and claiming Lockman was aware of my doing such when in fact they had not such knowledge. I have not continued to post even after Lockman has withdrawn my privilege for doing so a second time. If at any point I was told to cease from discussing this issue I would. Do you see any differences? As a representative of the doctrine you support you have accomplished one thing, In my eyes if your actions on this forum is an example of the fruit of that doctrine, I want no part of it. Sorry to be so blunt but you did ask the question. If you look since the time you were first revoked until now the topic of election has been discussed. However in each instance views from both sides were presented and the horse allowed to die. No one kept beating it over and over and over to no avail. Something you refused to resist doing. EdB |

FYI : In 36 months EdB submitted 96 posts in which some form of the word "tongue" appears. In 23 months John Reformed submitted 198 posts in which some form of the word "Calvin" appears. With EdB active on the forum for 36 months and John Reformed active on the forum for 23 months and comparing average number of such posts per month, that's a ratio of 3.2 : 1 3.2 "Calvin" posts by John Reformed to 1 (one) "election" post by EdB. |

Kalos Thank you for that. I'm truly surprised I didn't think there were that many. I just now read though most and I stand on what I said most are not forwarding or promoting the doctrine of tongues in any way most are purely informational or using the subject as an example. However I will admit there is a higher number than I ever thought that are pro tongues. However none went into debate to the degree we have seen with the subject of election. Interesting stats my friend. Thanks. Let it be known I won’t mention tongues again for awhile. I let you know when “awhile” is up. :-) EdB |
