Word Study ... katargeo - pauo .............. Scripture ... 1 Cor 13:8-10 ................. The time and how knowledge and prophecy will end differently from when tongues will Knowledge and prophecy "done away" with (katargeo - Strong's 2673). The perfect will actively do away with the partial (knowledge and prophecy). The future passive indicative voice of katargeo indicates when the perfect comes ... it will cause the partial (knowledge and prophecy) to be done away. Tongues are said to "cease" (pauo - Strong's 3973) and will cease of themselves. The Greek future middle indicative voice of pauo, which is defined as "an action taken by the subject upon him, her, or itself" ... will cease not because of the perfect coming, or anything else. Knowledge and prophecy in verse 9 are both present tense. The perfect, teleios, in verse 10 is a neuter noun with a definite article ... it is not coming of a person and His return is not a completed thing in Scripture. Some say this means when the NT was complete ... but, I do not know. Also, I do not know when tongues will be no more. |
