1 | What happens to one who commits suicide? | Rom 8:28 | John Reformed | 67829 | ||
Dear Ed, I appeciate your thoughtful and well reasoned reply. However God has not left us without scripture whereby we may warn and caution those who are bent on willfully sinning: Phil 2:12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; I would advise anyone, considering suicide, to pray and meditate on this verse (as well as others), that are given to us by God to drive complacency and the the carnal tendency to take our salvation for granted far from us. 2 Cor 13:5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test? Too many people are convinced of eternal security on the basis of the false assumption that they are saved on the basis of something they themselves did. Whether it be walking the aisle in answer to an "alter call"; saing the "sinners prayer; making a "confession of faith" etc. These are acts can be erroneously percieved as evidences of salvation. They are not (necessarily) evidence of anything! Some folks (I am sorry to say)are just taking out "fire insurance". The evidence of our salvation is our progress in Christ. Our sanctification, which is a lifelong process of becoming a more perfect reflection of our Blessed Lord and Saviour. John 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. We have no shortage of Biblical truth by which to warn feeble saints and to exhort them to good works and faith in Christ. God Bless Ed, John |
