1 | What happens to one who commits suicide? | Rom 8:28 | John Reformed | 67816 | ||
Hello EdB, Rom 8:33 Who will bring a charge against God's elect? God is the one who justifies; Is suicide a more agregious sin than seducing and committing adultery with one's servant's wife; then plotting the servant's murder after discovering the wife is pregnant? Would a saved person do such a thing? I think it is best to be silent (or, at least, non-judgmental) when the Bible does not offer us a clear answer on an issue. God Bless Ed, John |

John You absolutely right! We don’t know exactly how God views suicide. But we do know His view of Sin and we know taking a life is sin. And since the flavor of this thread seemed to be headed toward the point of view that it would be possible to commit suicide and enter heaven I felt it nesscary to present this opposing view. In the past I have talked to more than one teenager that has confided in me the only reason they did not commit suicide was their fear of eternal damnation. Later as they matured and the emotions and hormones died down suicide was no longer an option. God's grace now gave them meaning in their lives and God had shown them their true value. Again most if not all restated that one of the major factors that prevented them from carrying out the act was their belief that suicide would condemn them to hell. I know there are people looking for answers to life's questions viewing this forum. People that are looking of an okay to take their lives. As you stated the salvation of a person is really between God and that person all we can do offer that person a better way to stay in God’s will. To show them it is God’s desire for them to live and accomplish God’s plan in their life. Yes even make them question if they can be saved and still commit suicide. I think this is definitely better than saying salvation is between you and God if you think God will allow you to kill yourself and still be saved knock you socks off. Don't you? I didn’t respond as I did to disillusion anyone that might have lost a friend or love one due to suicide. Truthfully we don’t know that persons state of salvation. However for anyone considering suicide it is the responsibility of everyone of us to clearly state this is not God’s highest of best for them, that they place themselves in harms way and in danger of eternal damnation. Dear Ed, I appeciate your thoughtful and well reasoned reply. However God has not left us without scripture whereby we may warn and caution those who are bent on willfully sinning: Phil 2:12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; I would advise anyone, considering suicide, to pray and meditate on this verse (as well as others), that are given to us by God to drive complacency and the the carnal tendency to take our salvation for granted far from us. 2 Cor 13:5 Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you--unless indeed you fail the test? Too many people are convinced of eternal security on the basis of the false assumption that they are saved on the basis of something they themselves did. Whether it be walking the aisle in answer to an "alter call"; saing the "sinners prayer; making a "confession of faith" etc. These are acts can be erroneously percieved as evidences of salvation. They are not (necessarily) evidence of anything! Some folks (I am sorry to say)are just taking out "fire insurance". The evidence of our salvation is our progress in Christ. Our sanctification, which is a lifelong process of becoming a more perfect reflection of our Blessed Lord and Saviour. John 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. We have no shortage of Biblical truth by which to warn feeble saints and to exhort them to good works and faith in Christ. God Bless Ed, John |

John I think that was what I was doing in my first reply. The one you questioned. EdB |
