Greetings Grantathome21, There are many Scriptures that state that the Lord will "render unto every man according to his ways"... Job 34:11; Psalm 62:12; Prov. 12:14; 24:12; Isaiah 59:18; Jeremiah 17:10; Ezek. 7:3,27; Ezek. 16:59; 39:24; Zech. 1:6; Matt. 5:22; 16:27; 23:14; Luke 12:47,48; 20:47 Nothing is hidden from God (Job 34:21-22), and forgiven sins honor God (Psalm 25:11). Sin sapps our strength (Psalm 31:10), although there is healing for sin (Psalm 41:4). Sin corrupts (Psalm 53:1) and brings death (Romans 5:12; 6:23). In short, sin leads to death for the unbeliever and condemns him to eternal damnation. However, God does not punish children for their parents' sins, as Numbers 14:18 seems to state, but He punishes people for their own sins (Deut. 24:16; Ezek. 18:14-20). The Great White Throne judgment is the judgment that unbelievers must face (Revelation 20:11-15). Only the unsaved will be at the Great White Throne judgment, since they will be judged according to their works (Rev. 20:12,13) which cannot save them. For the believer, there will be no sin in heaven (Rev. 22:3,4), since sin is a reproach to the Lord (2 Sam. 12:14). There is no escape from the consequences of sin (Gen. 3:8-12; Isa. 28:18-22; Amos 9:1-4; Matt. 23:33; Heb. 2:3), even though we, as believers, can be forgiven for sin (Matt. 1:21; Ex. 34:6,7; Ezek. 34:16). Sin separates us from God (Isaiah 64:7; Hosea 9:12; Luke 13:27; Romans 8:7), and we cannot do what the Lord abhors and expect to continue on in a close relationship with Him (Psalm 5:4-6; Luke 16:15; Heb. 12:14). At the same time, I believe that it is impossible to attain sinless perfection this side of glory (1 John 2:12-14,19; 3:1; 5:13; Eph. 2:3), even for the believer in Christ, although we are admonished to steer clear of sin (Matt. 5:48); and Christ intercedes for us, so that we may not sin (John 17:15-17). For the believer, continuing to indulge in sin may cause us to miss out on rewards that we might otherwise receive at the judgment seat of Christ (2 John 8; 1 John 2:28; 1 Cor. 9:25; 2 Cor. 5:10). Believers are disciplined by the Lord when we sin (1 Cor. 11:32; 1 Thess. 4:6; Hebrews 12:5,7-10). - Makarios |
