Yes, but righteous is given based on forgiveness, repentance, faith in God and finally proof of faith which is obedeience. The Holy Spirit will give us the wisdom and power to overcome temptation and not sin. Obedience proves our love for God and loyalty to God not the devil. God's grace amd mercy have been present from the moment sin entered the world. In love, Merv |

"The observance of the Law has nothing to do with justification." James 2:23 (KJV) And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham BELIEVED God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Romans 4:22-24 (KJV) And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. [23] Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; [24] But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we BELIEVE on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Romans 4:11 (KJV) And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the FAITH which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that BELIEVE, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: NASB Romans 3:28 For we maintain that a man is justified by FAITH apart from works of the Law. AMPLIFIED Romans 3:28 For we hold that a man is justified and made upright by FAITH independent of and distinctly apart from good deeds (works of the Law). [The observance of the Law has nothing to do with justification.] (Emphasis added.) |

Yes: Works and law do not save us or justify us. Only the blood of Jesus did atone for past sins. But we are to live as Christ and Jesus "kept His father's commandments" We are instructed to "if we love Him keep His commandments" We keep the law out of love !! But we still keep them and are required to keep them. It is the evidence of a changed life. God said we will be known by our fruits. These fruits come fromthe basic law of God - to love Him and love our neighbor as we love Him. These laws were written in our heart as part of the new covenant. Justified means to be without blemish or sin. That is true once we repent - the challenge to us then is to "go and sin no more" as Jesus told the adulteress woman. Jesus said "anyone who says they love me (repent and confess) but do not keep my commandments is a liar" Cannot claim love for God and not obey. They go hand in hand. Bible says faith without works is dead. Merv |
