1 | Are we bound by OT Laws? | Rom 6:14 | IHH | 72594
Can you give me the scripture references that tell us that we are no longer bound by the laws of the Old Testament. Jesus said in Matt 5:17 that He had not come to abolish the laws of the prophets but I do remember that we are also told that we are not bound by the O.T. laws. Or is this only in reference to not having to sacrifice a lamb for forgiveness of sins because of Jesus' personal sacrifice for sin?
2 | Are we bound by OT Laws? | Rom 6:14 | BradK | 72595
Dear IHH, I would refer you to the clear statement in Rom. 6:14. Also, Rom.8:1-4 and 10:4. The passage in Galatians 3:19-25 may also shed some light: 19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made. 20 Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one. 21 Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? May it never be! For if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law. 22 But the Scripture has shut up everyone under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed. 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.(the Law) In my view, there is a basic distinction to be made in scripture between the Law and Grace.I hope this helps.
