1 | government persecution? | Rom 13:3 | case_00 | 105725
In Romans 13, Paul says that the government doesn’t punish the good, but many Christians were persecuted by Rome. How is this resolved? Thanks, Ryan |

2 | government persecution? | Rom 13:3 | Searcher56 | 105731
Scripture ... Mat 5:10-13, Rom 13:1ff ........... That was Paul's (and more our Lord's point) in this passage, we should not disobey the government to avoid persecution. |

3 | Government punishes the bad, not good? | Rom 13:3 | case_00 | 105787
Thanks for your response, but my question was that it seems that Paul was not accurate in his description of Government (I know he wasn't, but I don't understand how he wasn't). He says that Government punishes those who do bad and doesn't punish those who do good. But we do know that the government did persecute those who did good. How is this resolved without contradiction?

Case_00: Thank you for raising some very good thought-provoking questions. As I understand it, in Romans 13:3 Paul is not making historical commentary. Rather he is setting forth a principle that is generally true. Of course, there are always exceptions, human nature being what it is. I'm not saying I have the answer, just giving my understanding of it. :-) Peace to you, kalos |
