2 | Why submit to the governing authorities? | Rom 13:1 | Makarios | 12862
"13:1 be in subjection. From the same Greek verb used by Paul in Titus 3:1 and by Peter in 1 Peter 2:13, where essentially the same view of the individual’s proper attitude to the state is set forth. there is no authority except from God. This does not say that only certain forms of government are ordained of God. God established and upholds the principle of government even though some governments do not fulfill His desires." (Ryrie's Study Bible) "God, the supreme Sovereign, has ordained (see v. 2) that there should be governing authorities. Every believer is to be subject to these various authorities, even if these authorities are evil as Nero (A.D. 54–68), the emperor of Rome who cruelly persecuted Christians. When Paul wrote this letter, Nero was in power. Yet Paul exhorted the Roman believers to submit to Nero’s authority, because that authority was ordained by God Himself." (Nelson Study Bible) "God, Sovereignty—God is the ultimate authority, the sovereign Lord over the universe. Any human authority is a qualified authority, an authority subject to the higher authority of God. In this case, governmental authorities are seen as a part of the will of God for governing the ordinary life of people on the earth. It is God’s will that human life be governed or directed in an orderly, just way. A government, or an official, may do things that are most displeasing to God, but the function of government grows out of the will of God and is based upon the sovereign authority of God Himself." (Disciple's Study Bible) --Nolan |

3 | Are there exceptions to submitting? | Rom 13:1 | Searcher56 | 12876
Yes, it may be tough at times to submit to all the government's rules. But, we must. We need to pray for those who are oppressed for their beliefs -- for they are restricted, by law, what they can (cannot) do. Are there exceptions to submitting to the governing authorities? |

4 | Are there exceptions to submitting? | Rom 13:1 | Norrie | 12880
Steve, do you see how many questions you can think up every day? Are you having a quota to make daily? Of course you go against the govt if they make decisions against the will of God! If the govt told you to worship a false God (like w/Daniel) you wouldn't do it. If the govt was killing people (like Nazis, etc) you'd go against that. If you were forced to take a mark (future) you wouldn't do that. Even saying abortion is legal doesn't make it right with God. Is this enough? |

Steve, why are you vague, pointless and sometimes even senseless in what you write? Would you please be more "concrete" in your answers? I'm not sure that your goal in asking questions to stimulate growth in others is working, since there are only a select few who have the patience to answer every single one of your questions (or tired of seeing them "pending"..) Only the Holy Spirit facilities and engenders spiritual growth in believers, not your questions. --Nolan |
