1 | What does "a measure of faith" mean? | Rom 12:3 | prayon | 8984 | ||
Andrew, a measure of faith is just that - a measurement of faith. The measure of faith should be understood as the same as "gifts that differ according to the grace given to us" (v. 6) and corresponds to Paul's similar statements about gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4. |

Just to add a little more here... The Ryrie Expanded Edition NASB states, "In introducing the subject of the use of spiritual gifts, Paul warns against highmindedness and exhorts sober-mindedness, based on the 'measure of faith' to work for God that has been given each one." The MacArthur NKJV Study Bible comments, "'measure of faith.' The correct proportion of the spiritual gift- or supernatural endowment and ability- the Holy Spirit gives each believer (see note on 1 Peter 4:10,11) so he may fulfill his role in the body of Christ (1 Cor. 12:7,11). "Faith" is not saving faith, but rather faithful stewardship, the kind and quantity required to use one's own particular gift (cf. 1 Cor. 12:7,11). Every believer receives the exact gift and resources he needs to fulfill his role in the body of Christ." |
