1 | Israeli State is Israel in Name Only | Rom 11:14 | DocTrinsograce | 175820
Let's be clear: the secular state of Israel, although largely populated by Jews and sharing a common nomenclature, is not, itself, the Israel of Scripture. The Israel of Scripture is a group of people consisting of the descendants of Jacob. In modern times there are more descendants of Jacob who are not citizens of Israel than there are Jews in the land of Israel. Please do not confuse the two -- no matter your particular eschatological and/or apocalyptic perspective. "The entitlement of any one ethnic or religious group to territory in the Middle East called the 'Holy Land' cannot be supported by Scripture. In fact, the land promises specific to Israel in the Old Testament were fulfilled under Joshua. The New Testament speaks clearly and prophetically about the destruction of the second temple in AD 70. No New Testament writer foresees a re-gathering of ethnic Israel in the land, as did the prophets of the Old Testament after the destruction of the first temple in 586 BC. Moreover, the land promises of the Old Covenant are consistently and deliberately expanded in the New Testament to show the universal dominion of Jesus, who reigns from heaven upon the throne of David, inviting all the nations through the gospel of grace to partake of his universal and everlasting dominion. Bad Christian theology regarding the ‘Holy Land’ contributed to the tragic cruelty of the Crusades in the Middle Ages. Lamentably, bad Christian theology is today attributing to secular Israel a divine mandate to conquer and hold Palestine, with the consequence that the Palestinian people are marginalized and regarded as virtual 'Canaanites.' This doctrine is both contrary to the teaching of the New Testament and a violation of the gospel mandate. In addition, this theology puts those Christians who are urging the violent seizure and occupation of Palestinian land in moral jeopardy of their own bloodguiltiness. Are we as Christians not called to pray for and work for peace, warning both parties to this conflict that those who live by the sword will die by the sword? Only the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring both temporal reconciliation and the hope of an eternal and heavenly inheritance to the Israeli and the Palestinian. Only through Jesus Christ can anyone know peace on earth." --Knox Theological Seminary Though your theology may differ from that taught at KTS, do not fail to heed their warning. 2 | Israeli State is Israel in Name Only | Rom 11:14 | CDBJ | 175824
Hi Doc, With reference to Israel; do we always know exactly what’s going on within the plan of God and is everything cut and dried from our perspective? Your previous post kind of reminded me of the “Elijah syndrome”, where he thought he was up on all the current events. Elijah speaking, 1 Kings 19:14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away. Not much left of true Israel from the way Elijah saw it. What seemed like a broad view of the situation from Elijah’s viewpoint turned out to be Elijah virtually looking through a keyhole into a mirror! The Lord saw the overall picture, as it truly was, and decided to show Elijah the overall puzzle picture? 1 Kings 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him. As for Israel, we don’t know all that the Lord is doing at the present time, but I would venture a guess that God’s clock is ticking right on time. Someone once quipped, “I’m not sure what the future holds but I know who holds the future.” As for your ending, "We are to spread the gospel message of Jesus Christ to Jew and Gentile alike!" Alike, OK, but in a certain order. Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. These are like the before and after, salvation, verses. Galatians 3:28-29 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. [29] And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Isn’t it fun having all of the pieces of the puzzle and trying to figure out just how they all fit to form the perfect picture? CDBJ |

3 | Israeli State is Israel in Name Only | Rom 11:14 | mark d seyler | 175832
Hi CDBJ, I think its great fun trying to understand these things! My pastor pointed out a passage I had not been thinking of last Sunday, in Isaiah 11:11 "And it shall be in that day, the Lord shall again set His hand, the second time, to recover the remnant of His people that remains, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Ethiopia, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the coasts of the sea." This is in the context of the Kingdom age, when the wolf shall lay down with the lamb, and the knowledge of the LORD will cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. So the second time the Lord regathers Israel to the land will be the last time, and after that the Kingdom! Great things are afoot! Luke 21:28 "But these things beginning to happen, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near." Love in Christ, Mark |

4 | Israeli State is Israel in Name Only | Rom 11:14 | CDBJ | 175847
Hi Mark, That’s an interesting observation in Isaiah 11:11 and since that is the Kingdom age, and I agree, now what do we do with the Scripture cited by Paul; it surely can’t take place during the Kingdom age? 2 Thes. 2:1-4 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, [2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. [3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; [4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. My question would be, is Israel a nation now or is it just a figment of our imagination? Just kidding. If Israel is a nation, which is a fact, then the situation in 2 Thes could be right around the corner, no matter what transpired to bring it to pass with regards to the gathering of the Diaspora. Sometimes I don’t understand all I know about that, CDBJ |
