1 | Baptized in whose name before Matt 28? | Rom 10:9 | Ray | 102771
Hi TommyS, You ask, "In what "name" was Jesus Himself baptized? John 1:33, "And I did not recognize Him, but (He) who sent me to baptize in water said to me, "He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the one [He, NKJ] who baptizes in the Holy Spirit." Who sent John to baptize in water? The One who spoke to him. Matthew 28:17, 18, "And when they saw Him they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to (Me) in heaven and earth." From the heart, Ray |

2 | Baptized in whose name before Matt 28? | Rom 10:9 | TommyS | 102819
Hello, Ray, thanks for offering an answer to my question. I'm sorry, but I failed to word it according to what I desire to learn. Allow my to reprase it, please. In John 4:1-2 it says that "Jesus was gaining and baptizing more disciples than John, although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but His disciples." This was at the begining of Jesus' ministry, and at the END of His ministry, Matt 28:19, He commanded those same disciples who had been baptizing all along to "Go into all the world, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the "name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." My question meant to be - if the disciples began baptizing a few years before, "IN WHAT NAME, or IN WHOSE NAME - did they do it? Seeing it wasn't until AFTER Jesus'resurrection that "this addition tidbit arrived". Any comments that might help? TommyS |
