1 | Called and sent by God or just "went"? | Acts 6:5 | Pastor Glenn | 66448
Called and sent by God or just "went"? Is it important to wait for the leading of the Holy Spirit before entering the ministry? Or is it enough to just be born again and study the scriptures or both? Are the Old Testament scriptures like Jeremiah 14:14 related only to the prophets of old or are they relavant to ministers today? Here are some related scriptures: Acts 6:3Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; Acts 8:29Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go near and overtake this chariot." Isaiah 6:5 So I said: "Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts." 6Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. 7And he touched my mouth with it, and said: "Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged." 8Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: "Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?" Then I said, "Here am I! Send me." Jer 14:13Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, the prophets say to them, "You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place."' 14And the LORD said to me, "The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart. 15Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, whom I did not send, and who say, "Sword and famine shall not be in this land'--"By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed! 2 | Called and sent by God or just "went"? | Acts 6:5 | EdB | 66486
Pastor Glenn No man can stand in true in ministry and not be called of God. Many try and many do just as Jeremiah 14:14 states, they say what they dream up instead of what God has given them to say. True ministry is not a job or career it is a lifestyle birthed in a calling from God. Too many enter ministry to have a job and many times that job eats them up and they leave. Others find if they say what people want to hear and that people will be drawn to them to have their ears tickled, however that is not real ministry. This is what the bible calls a false teacher. No matter how good ones intentions might be without the calling of God on ones life to enter the ministry will result one of two ways. Either they will become frustrated and leave the ministry or they will become a false teacher. My opinion EdB Today discernment, one of the gifts of the spirit is discouraged. The greatest cry in the church is "thy shall not judge". However as I said discernment is a gift and it is used to discern or judge what is true and what is false. Too many today follow false leaders who are making themselves rich merchandising the Word of the Lord. |

Excellent. Very well said EdB. Here is another scripture that I left out: Romans 10:14How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" Pastor Glenn |
