Gamaliel menas "my recompenser (or reward)is God" He wanted moderation and calmness when the apostles were brought before the council Acts 5:34-40). We know that Paul studied under him (22:3). It is possible he was the son of rabbi Simeon, and grandson of the famous rabbi Hillel. Hillel, is referred to as authority in the Jewish Mishna. He was a Pharisse, and therefore the opponent of the party of the Sadducees. He was noted for his learning, and was president of the Sanhedrim during the regins of Tiberius, Caligula, and Claudius, and died in A.D. 52. Steve Searching Scripture |
