1 | Obey your leaders ? | Acts 5:29 | Vintage68 | 216651
Hi GI: Yeah I guess your right I did think, your note was self-explanatory, but I wasn't asking for people, to give their personal views on the political scene we have today. That goes against the terms of use, that we all agreed to when we joined the forum. You raised the point of the Christians having kings and their appointed entourage. I was just asking you for the bible references. But you can forgo answering, I see that it bothers you. By the way did you read the original question at all? If so did I word it in such a way, that it was hard for you to understand, seems I have a way of doing that sorry, please forgive me:-( Vintage68 |

2 | Obey your leaders ? | Acts 5:29 | grafted in | 216669
Greetings Vintage, No, it doesn't bother me. I did not bring out scripture references as I was talking in terms of the culture back then, before, during and after Jesus' life. The kings came to be by birth or appointed by another king. The other politicals would have been appointed by the reigning king. The only way for folks back then to get rid of their king and heads of office would be by assasination and that certainly would not be a good thing for a Jew or a Christian to be a part of. And then they would have just gotten the next in line by birth (possibly even worse that the first). This is the way I understand the system, before and during Jesus' lifetime and for quite some time afterward. If I'm wrong and I put my foot in my mouth (I've done that before lol) - then accept my apology, please. What I said about today in response still stands - we put our leaders in office by majority vote, be it the police chief, the ADA, the president... and we have the right, nay, the obligation, to take them out of office if they are not what they pretended to be while running for office. And yes, I did the read the original question. I was mainly responding to the responder, Rolff. I may have misunderstood him but it seemed like he was talking like we today have no say in what our leaders decide to do once in office. If I overstepped the legalities of the forum here, please forgive. It was not my intention to start a political debate (I am rather politically unlearned anyway). :o) Have a good evening |

Dear grafted, I don't mean to be picky here, and you are correct in saying that the people living in the greater part of the world at the time of Jesus and beyond to the early Church times had no recourse as to who their leaders would be, but they didn't have kings, they had Emperors, or, Caesars. Pretty much the same thing as a king, and it most often was also by birthright. Good post too though, 'well said', and I agree with you that we have a responsibility to keep our leaders honest. I'll leave it at that though, because you are right in saying you may have oversteped, (No problem though, it isn't the first time someone has done that. I don't think anyone will hang you :-)) this forum is not a platform for political debate or discussion, but as to our gracious hosts wishes and indeed their behest, SBF is intentionally and by design, exclusively incepted for the purpose of Bible study.
