1 | Purpose of attending church? | Acts 2:46 | DocTrinsograce | 130508
What is the true function of the church from a biblical perspective? By "church" I mean the place (usually a building) where we regularly meet. Is there a difference between how the church functions if one is refering to the body of Christ or if one is refering to the meeting place? What Scriptures explain why we all show up at the same time and on the same day as other believers to do the things we do? And since I'm on the subject, what IS it we do and WHY do we do it? Eagerly awaiting your answers, along with supporting chapter and verse. In Christ, Karen |

2 | Purpose of attending church? | Acts 2:46 | DocTrinsograce | 130509
This isn't an answer to the question but it is an answer to the mystery of why DocTrinsograce posted a question and signed it "Karen". The answer is found in Genesis 2:24 ("...and they shall become one flesh"). The other explanation is that Karen had to borrow Doc's computer (her's being unavailable and all) and when she went to the forum she forgot (being tired and all) that Doc was logged in under his name (being his computer and all). Hank: does the verse I submitted with this post support the idea that the function of the church is, in fact, to "eat, drink, and be merry"? Mrs. Doc |

3 | Purpose of attending church? | Acts 2:46 | Hank | 130554
Karen: "Hank, does the verse...support...'eat, drink, and be merry?'" ..... Not really, at least not in the sense and context I used the expression. Fellowship of the saints is a scriptural concept to be sure, but fellowship should not be exalted as being the only, or even the chief, objective of local churches. But in some of them it seems to be treated so; "fellowship" has come to mean mostly a social gathering punctuated by eating and entertainment -- the carnival syndrome -- at the expense of worshiping God and preaching His word. But this is not to say that Christians should become gloomy asocial grouches! --Hank
