1 | Omit or not?To raise up the Messiah? | Acts 2:30 | Ray | 143432 | ||
Hi Mommapbs, The verses that you are posting here are not verses that I compared with each other. The word "gives" in 1 Thess suggests that God is giving His gift of holy spirit. The Holy Spirit of 2 Timothy 1:14 is He who is able to guard what was entrusted to Him (see verse 12). I would not compare them because one speaks of gift of holy spirit and the other of the Holy Spirit Himself. Now, if I follow your suggestion of a "holy Spirit" for 2 Tim 1:14 then the comparison with Ephesians 1:17 would not be the same. I failed to give you any comparison words, sorry. But I would compare "Holy"/ with "may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him./" Continuing on with the comparison of 2 Tim and Ephesians we would have the "treasure" and the "riches". 1) When speaking of the Person of the Holy Spirit, I believe that we should consistently capitalize the Holy. I am not saying that your suggestion of "holy Spirit" was not discussed through the ages. John 7:39 and the variance of manuscripts for that verse could be an example of such a discussion. 2) For an exercise in considering Gracious Father or "Holy Father" or "Righteous Father" you might look at John 17 and the conversation I had with Makarios and others years back. I hope this is all helping you. I do not want to discourage your free thinking, but God is not a God of confusion and we want to be consistent and discerning so that we may know the triune God better. I am encouraged today in reading 1 Thess 4:8, in that I am going with the NU Text and the NASB and "is giving" rather than the "has given" of the NKJ. In other words I am encouraged to think that we also can still be taught of (God) and receive instruction on how to walk and please (God). From the heart, Ray |
