2 | God is Light? | Acts 26:18 | Ray | 130476
1 John 1:5, NASB, copyright 1995, reads "And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him is no darkness at all." 1 John 1:7 goes on and reads, "but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin." In the previous 1977 copy the Lockman Foundation had "light" in lower case. I had always penciled in for my personal copy the upper case Light so I was encouraged in my interpretation by the most recent copyright. My question here is whether the upper case Light should be considered for Acts 26:18 as well. My argument for Light [sic] is that the relationship of darkness and the dominion of Satan contrasts with the "to Light" and "to God". More comments from anyone? From the heart, Ray |

3 | God is Light? | Acts 26:18 | ROGER459 | 130532
(1Thes 5:5) Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. |

4 | God is Light? | Acts 26:18 | Ray | 130574
Hi Roger459, Your 1 Thess 5:5 reference is a good one to consider. There also we see the consistency of light and day, of night and darkness. I leave the "light" in the lower case for it is not talking of Deity. The Light enlightens and give light, and not all occurances should be capitalized. From the heart, Ray |

5 | God is Light? | Acts 26:18 | ROGER459 | 130576
Which Light are you speaking about? The visual light we see as humans? Perhaps if the translators used the 'right Capitalization' we would not be discussing these things? Perhaps we should see as God sees? (Psalms 139:12) Yea, the darkness hideth not from Thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to Thee. Thank you! |

6 | God is Light? | Acts 26:18 | Ray | 130593
Hi Roger459, We are discussing these things because the Greek and Hebrew do not give us any help in the "right capitalization". However, judging by your prolific use of (c)Capitalization throughout your posts, I wonder how meaningful a discussion we might have. That being said, I appreciate your Psalm 139:12 reference because it is a meaningful passage. In my personal study I have looked at Psalm 139:7 to determine if the verse is talking about going from His Spirit and fleeing from His Presence, or going from His spirit and fleeing from His presence. I have chosen "spirit" and "presence". How about you? You have made me look at verses 11 and 12 and I find them interesting and enlightening. Verse 11 can be thought of as one quote as per the NASB or as a statement with an answer as per the NKJ. I go with the NKJ, "If I say, "Surely the darkness shall fall on me", Even the night shall be light about me;" Why is the night to be light about him? Verse 12 tells us it is because even the darkness is not dark when it comes FROM Him. The marginal note in my NASB Study Bible has for verse 12 [Lit. from]. This note is in regards to the word "to". So my choice for Psalm 139:12 would be the NASB. Psalm 139:12, NASB, "Even the darkness is not dark to [Lit. from] Thee, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to Thee." There is no sin or darkness in Him. He is the One who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see. 1 Timothy 6:16. From the heart, Ray |
