Mommapbs I think the problem, here is as many people get involved with serious Bible study they begin to see the importance of understanding Hebrew or Jewish culture. They then confuse this need to understand to actually begin conforming to the that culture. Many "Pastors" in the last 5 or so years have played to that and have brought in various Hebrew/Jewish customs into their church. One is the blowing of the Shofar. When properly done (timing, loudness etc)this seems to invoke an emotional response in the people that they then incorrectly interpret to be a sign from God. I have many Messianic Jewish friends that see Hebrew/Jewish customs as lingering of the law. Most distance themselves from them. However on the other hand I have an equal number of Christians friends (born Gentile) that have gotten involved in the "Messianic Judaism" that seem to want to get tied up in it all. They see it as getting in touch with their roots, they cling tenaciously to it almost using it as replacement for a real and genuine relationship with Christ. EdB |

Yup, I concer with what you are saying. I have seen a Christian women convert to Judaism. It is a sad thing when people exchange the truth of the Gospel for the teachings of man -- Rabbis of old. There is a value to knowing what these men taught during Jesus time, but one must never forget how Jesus and Paul responded to misinterperations of the OT Text. You have been of great value to me in these discussions EdB. God Bless, MJH |
