Scripture ... Act 14:19-20; 2Co 12:1-4 ... God's day to you, DNR, and welcome to the SBF, While I think Paul may have died (Act 14:19-20), his acount of being in heaven (2Co 12:1-4) may not have been as the result. Others do believe the passage in Corinthians is about his death experience in Acts. Jesus died and returned to life. He is the only one who stayed alive: * The widow's son (1Ki 17:19-24). * The Shunammite's son (2Ki 4:32-35). * A man whose body had been placed in Elisha's tomb (2Ki 13:21). * Lazarus (Joh 11:43-44). * The ruler's daughter (Mat 9:23-26). * Many people at the moment when Jesus died(Mat 27:51-53) * Tabitha (Act 9:36-43). * Eutychus (Act 20:9-10). The Rich Man and Lazarus (Luk 16:14-31) is a parable about two who have died. Searcher |

I tend to agree with Searchers answer concerning Acts 14:19-20 and 2 Cor. 12:1-4. Paul saw things he wasn't able to speak about and I believe any near death experience where the person actually went to heaven would have the same accounting. Knowing Paul is an exception I would say that for someone to die go to heaven and then be sent back would be cruel and unusual punishment. I would think after sampling heaven the person would be kicking and screaming over being sent back. So I don't buy any of those stories. Secondly I believe if someone did actually go to heaven and come back you would have to shoot them to shut them up from talking about heaven. I would think they would be compiled to stand on every street corner they came to and preach the reality of heaven. So again I believe we have one persons account of near death experience. There are others in scripture that died and returned but I don't think they were ever taken into heaven. As for the Luke 16 this story perfectly parallels the Jewish view of Hell/Hades/Sheol. I do not believe Jesus would tell a parable that would reinforce a falsehood of Jewish thinking. Also we know upon Jesus' death He entered Hell, Abraham bosom or Paradise side of Hell and lead the captive of death to heaven. Eph 4:8 |
