1 | Was it a man after God's own heart | Acts 13:22 | ebrain | 165889
Because the Lord God knew that David would in due time repent, for what he had done, and this is shown to be the case as Psalm 51 reveals. Raeading Psalm 51 shows us that no matter how much we have sinned, it is never so great that God will not forgive the truly repentant sinner. I know, He forgave me, I was almost 30 years old, and you can have no idea of the enormity of my sin, before He saved me. I thought "I had gone too far, and had done too much that I knew to be wrong for God to forgive me", however, He showed me that despite the enormity of my sin, He still loved me, and I was unable to resist any longer, and was overjoyed to receive His salvation. |

2 | David multiple wives, a life time of sin | Acts 13:22 | Finder | 165891
ebrain, thanks for your reply. Praise God for your salvation! But I guess a point was not addressed. David LIVED with these many wives all his life. For this, he never repented because he never divorced them. So it still seems that he lived in adultery and it seems difficult to accept that he could be such an important model for a Christian and such a paradigm of one whose heart was after God's own heart. 3 | David multiple wives, a life time of sin | Acts 13:22 | DocTrinsograce | 165893
Dear Finder, Polygamy and adultery are very different things... very different things indeed! There is no admonition in Scripture regarding taking more than one wife. The practice of monogamy stems from the principles of Scripture, not from the Law. Notice, for example, that God created only a single wife for Adam. Furthermore, every instance of polygamy in Scripture was accompanied by a plethora of additional problems, both practical and spiritual. Whereas David committed adultery with Bathsheba, his other matrimonial relationships were not adulterous. Indeed, in 2 Samuel 20:3 we find David carefully avoiding adultery and showing kindness to ten concubines. Since Absalom had slept with them (2 Samuel 16:22), if David had had relations with them it would have been adulterous. The norm during that day would have been to have killed the concubines. Instead, David very generously sees to their care for the rest of their lives. Every one of us is fraught with failure and shortcomings. That is what the Scriptural doctrine of total depravity is all about. It is a matter of extensiveness, not intensiveness. David was a man like us all, but without the advantage of the full canon of Scripture. Nevertheless, the general bent of his life manifested his love for the Lord, the source of grace by which he lived. In the spirit of Christian charity, I urge you to not place fault against anyone above that which is done by the Word of God. To do so is to fail at obedience to the law (James 4:11). A high regard for the Scripture means that we take care not to say anything more or anything less than that which has been given us by God. In Him, Doc |

4 | unnessisary brain strain... | Acts 13:22 | Shythiyl | 165896
Thank you for such words. Your name, combined with these words puts me in mind of a "spiritual Doctor." Would you please expound on your comment "Since Absalom had slept ...., if David had had relations with them it would have been adulterous. This seems to me, to say that, if one were to sleep with anothers wife, even if it were not with the wifes concent, for the husband of that wife to sleep with her again, would be adultry, but then we are not talking about a wife, but a concubine which, as you stated in not so many words, is no longer permissable. If 3 pluss 5 equals 8. Why does 4 pluss 4 not equal 8? But then 4 is no longer 4. It is now the square root of 16, but then, what is that square root, if not 4? I was never good at that kind of math, for I see absolutely no ryme or reason to it. Perhaps this one of those a/b equals 4 equasions. If this is the case, why can (a) and (b) not be 16 and 4? I know it could also be 200 and 50, but WHY CAN'T THE CORRECT ANSWER STILL NOT BE AS I HAVE STATED???? Whew... I'm getting a little dizzy headed with all this unnessisary brain strain... |
