Hi, Morton... You'll find a great deal of discussion on this topic using the search function. In the mean time, here are a few passages to get you started: John 1:1-3, 14; 20:28; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 1:2, 8, 9; Philippians 2:5-8. In Him, Doc |

Thanks Doc - The Heb 1:2,8-9 ref led me to v10 which uses the word Lord connected back to the o.t.Joh 1:1-3,14, Co 2:9 speak of the complete DEITY of the Lord Jesus, there is no problem with that (I believe he is God made flesh) but the texts do not use the word Lord. Jo 20:28 uses the word Lord this shows that Thomas believed Jesus to be the same as the Lord as the o.t. but has no specific link as far as i can see. The Phil 2:5-8 text again uses the word Lord but does it refer back to the o.t. this is what I am looking for. Is it better to put texts in search box or words, can you make any suggestions as to what to type in here, I seem to be going all over the place it is intresting reading, but taking up a lot of time. Please excuse my ignorance. Many thanks morton-lindiema
3 | Jesus Lord same as o.t. | John 8:58 | DocTrinsograce | 183365
Hi, Morton... You will know, of course, that the Old Testament (OT) is written predominantly in Hebrew. Whereas the New Testament (NT) is written in Greek. Consequently, you will not find the Tetragrammaton in the NT. However, when the NT quotes the OT, it does so by and large from the Septuagint (LXX). So, how does the LXX translate Yahweh? It does so with the Greek word "Theos" (Strong's number G2316) Therefore, how do we find the word "Theos" being used in the NT? "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God [Theos] with us)." (Matthew 1:23 ESV) You might want to avail yourself of a Strong's Exhaustive Concordance and work through all these references yourself, drawing out the necessary connections. You will find that such an exercise will serve to instruct you far better than what is given to you by others. However, you will find further instruction by studying Church History. In this context, you might want to start with Athanasius. Often the old creeds and confessions deal most effectively with the message of Scripture in the light of Scripture. Nevertheless, as I stated before, this topic is frequently discussed in the forum. You will find many, many postings on this question, from about as many different perspectives as you can imagine.
