Quoted from Doc: Anyway, relative to baptism: baptism is something that the saved do, not something that makes them saved. Birds fly because they are birds, flying does not make them birds. I'm not sure about the analogy of birds and their inborn ability to fly to this discussion. But I am interested in following ALL of the Words from the Bible on the subject of becoming a christian. It just seems like there's so much controversy and I don't understand why. I read Mk 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." Yes, I can ackowledge in light of CDBJ's post, there are some scriptures that DON'T say the word "baptism" but God only has to say something once and we should do it, right? After all, He is God. So in addition to believing, confessing, and repenting, it just seems natural to tell everyone when we're discussing this subject that baptism is part of the process. After all, one doesn't have the whole enchilada without all the vital ingredients, right? I'm just trying to get us all on the same page and aim for that unity for which our Lord prayed to His Father. Later on Paul encourages all christians to be of one mind, one faith, one body, one Lord and one baptism. Eph 4:4-6 It's not my obsession with this concept...it's the Lord's. He wants us to come to Him, as HE (and only He) is "the Way, the Truth and the Life." Jn 14:6 |

Dear inquisitor, You wrote, "I'm not sure about the analogy of birds and their inborn ability to fly to this discussion. But I am interested in following ALL of the Words from the Bible..." (sic) I wonder at your assertion. If you have this deep interest, I think that you would have found that my analogy is echoed throughout Scripture. The nature of a thing is not changed by what it does, rather its nature is revealed by what it does (Matthew 7:16-20; 12:33; Luke 6:43-44; James 3:12; etc.) You wrote, "It just seems like there's so much controversy and I don't understand why." (sic) See post #157634. You wrote, "Mk 16:15..." (sic) See post #222916. You wrote, "I'm just trying to get us all on the same page and aim for that unity for which our Lord prayed to His Father." (sic) The unity Christ prayed for was a unity in truth. (See post #128189 and #149765) You wrote, "It's not my obsession with this concept...it's the Lord's. He wants us to come to Him..." (sic) Such efforts to deal with essential doctrines has been rendered up to you already. Why do you suppose the creeds, confessions, and councils of the church came into existence? Paul assured us that heresy would come (Acts 20:29), yet he also assured us that they were necessary as a means of proving the work of God (1 Corinthians 11:19-20). Regardless, you cannot dismiss twenty centuries of believers thought on one hand, and then affirm your own allegiance to such efforts. No... I take it back... you can... but you ought not if you hope that your arguments will be seriously considered by others. In Him, Doc |
