1 | Hearing and believing only required? | John 5:24 | 4givn | 90426
Are "hearing" and "believing" the only requirements for salvation, and how can one lose their salvation if they have "heard" and "believed"? Where this verse says "has eternal life", is it from that moment on, when that person first "believed"? And does "will not be condemned" mean at the judgment?

Look at what John 3:16 says, the word translated beleives or beleiveth is the same Greek word (the language that the bible was written in)that is used in John 2:24 translated as entrust or commit. Salvation comes by hearing the word of God. What was Jesus' message, it was repent and place your trust in me to bring you salvation. Salvation comes not by what we do but by what Jesus did. When we place our trust in him to save us we are trusting in his sacrifice to completly pay for (atone for) our sins. When someone truly places their eternal life in Jesus' hands to save them he does the work not us Ehp 2:8. Because we did nothing to earn salvation (we simply trusted that Christ has done the work) we can not do anything to lose it. If our salvation is dependent on anything we had to do after we trust in Christ's work on the cross, then we are not saved "by grace" as it says in Ephesians 2:8. If we have to do anything to keep our salvation than we have a part in whether or not we get to heaven which would mean we earned it no matter how small it was. If we earned it than we can boast in what we have accomplished which is just the opposite of what Paul says in Ephesians 2:8. Christ paid for all of our sins on the cross he took 100 percent of God's judgement for the sin of those who beleive in him. That is why there is no more condemnation for those in Christ Jesus because the price has been paid in full, your sins, past, present ans future died with him on the cross. For those who have trusted in him our salvation is so sure that the bible speaks of it as if we already had it. I hope this helps. keep studying! |
