Dear Tim Moran, Thanks for not answering my question, again surely someone would complain on such an important doctrine had it been incorrect. Who better to interpret scripture than people who lived during or shortly after the time of the apostles, and who were instructed in the "traditions handed down by word of mouth or by letter" directly from the apostles. Also, compare Matthew 26:28 with Acts 2:38, "same exact phrase" in greek and in english. Surely Jesus did not die because are sins are already forgiven but in order to forgive them. Why is there "no English translation anywhere" stating baptism because of forgiveness if that's what it supposedly is saying? |

Greetings Arrow1! I did answer your question my friend, you just didn't agree with my answer! :-) The early church fathers are no more qualified to 'interpret' Scripture than any of us. As far as Acts 2:38 is concerned, I have already posted many times on this verse. If you would like to read them, just search using my name 'Morant61' and 'Acts 2:38'. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask my friend. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

The early church fathers are infinitely more qualified to interpret scripture. They read and spoke in the original languages, and were taught by the apostles or taught by someone who knew the apostles or taught by people who were only one generation from the early church. | ||||||

Greetings Arrow1! This is a very subjective argument on both sides, but as evidence of my position I would offer up the many 'false' doctrines which plagued the early church. If it were true that simply being closer to the time of the time of the apostles, then why was so there so much heresy in the early church? :-) I have read many of the writings of the early church fathers, and in my opinion, there is a noticable drop off in quality between their writings and the writings of the apostles. But, you have your view on them and I have mine. And, that is alright. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Hello Tim, Amen to the noticable drop off. Last week I read The Apostolic Tradition by Hippolytus. It was written about 210-220 A.D. I was amazed. Basically, it was describing a Christianized Levitical priesthood. Steve |
