1 | Water alone means baptism? (Question 2) | John 3:5 | DocTrinsograce | 134705
I've looked at every reference to water ("hudatos") in all 79 occurrences of it in the New Testament. I do not find any other verse where water, by itself, is used to signify baptism. If, indeed, Jesus means Christian baptism by His use of the word water here in John 3:5, it is the only instance we have of this kind of language. Therefore, the next question approaches this issue from a different angle: Can anyone see anything in the context of this incident (i.e., John 3:1-21 and most specifically Christ's words to Nicodemus) that might give us clear indication that Jesus meant Christian baptism by His use of the word water? |

2 | Water alone means baptism? (Question 2) | John 3:5 | Mommapbs | 134747
Greetings Doc - the word that comes to mind is "cleansed." "But a voice from heaven answered a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.'Acts 11:9 Eph 5:26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Act 11:16 Johns baptism was for the repentance of sins - Christ's baptism with the Holy Spirit is for our regeneration (the forgiveness of sins) - only God can forgive sin. Repentance precedes forgiveness. "Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also AFTER believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?" Acts 11:17 (EPH - mine) Heb 9:22 And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. May the Lord bless you as you ponder His Word! mommapbs |

Thank you, Mom. These suggestions will become more pertinent at a later stage. So lets hang on to them. Right now, though, we are looking at the whole passage there in John 3 where Christ's comment is made. We are trying to see if there are any clues in the context of the incident in which the words were spoken (i.e., verses 1 through 21). In Him, Doc |
