1 | promise of family to thousand generation | John 3:16 | mmam51 | 131413
I have heard preached that God has promised the salvation of our families down to a thousand generations, or something of that effect. My problem is that I have looked and looked for that specific scripture and haven't been able to find it or one similar. Could any one please tell to what scripture this refers?

Hi, mmam51! I think that the Scripture you're looking for is Exodus 34:7: maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." There's no implied "Umbrella Salvation" on this Scripture... It is similar two several others... I will include two of them: This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live (Deuteronomy 30:19) And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband has been sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife has been sanctified through her believing husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy. But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace. How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife? (1 Corinthians 7:13-16) Neither of these two Scriptural passages is implying an "Umbrella Salvation." In Deuteronomy 30:19 Yahweh is calling the Israelites to choose life, and He promises that by choosing life all of their household may gain life (Salvation)... our first task, as a Christian, is to bring our family members to Christ--both through example and through teaching; it is in this manner that we may bring "life" to all in our household. In 1 Corinthians 7:13-16 Paul is not declaring amnesty for the unbeliving spouses and the offspring of a union between a believer and an unbeliever... Paul is attesting to the fact that if only one spouse is a believer he/she can bring grace to the other spouse and the children... through the believer's prayer, example and teahing the nonbeliever and their child/ren can be brought into the Fold! Ezekiel 18 is an excellent example of how God sees Salvation and damnation... yet, though it is an individual occurrence, we can serve Christ (through prayer, example, and teaching) by being that voice crying in the desert... hence, God brings Salvation to all! God Bless! Angel |
