Can anyone help with this question. Where did the dead go before Jeus Christ came and opened the way for man to go to heaven? Where did the likes of Abraham, David etc and the people go? |

2 | Where were the dead before Christ came? | John 3:13 | RoaringLamb | 104540 | ||
Greetings, cariad. Abraham, David, even Elijah and Enoch are dead. Their spirits are in God's care, but they are presently asleep and awaiting the resurrection to take place at the Second Coming. Contrary to popular views, NO ONE HAS GONE TO HEAVEN EXCEPT CHRIST (John 3:13)! Jesus himself showed death to be a state of unconsciousness, calling it "sleep" (John 11:11-14). Ecclesiates 9:5 tells us that "the dead know nothing." First Thessalonians 1:13-17 not only reaffirms that the dead are asleep but also tells us when the righteous dead will awaken: "...I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep...we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven...with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air." Incidentally, this event is commonly referred to as the Rapture. However, the belief that this is a SECRET coming that occurs PRIOR TO Christ's appearance in Revelation when "every eye shall see him" is also in error. A careful reading of Matthew 24:27-31 and the Revelation - to Rev. 11:15 - place this event at the seventh (or last) trumpet. |
