Hello canwdn I would see it as an act of mercy that he didn't destroy the bird cages so that the doves would fly away. There was no intent to destroy their livelihood. The coins, oxen, and sheep could be recovered easily enough, but trapping new birds would be a great deal of work. Steve |

You could be right, however, I'm looking at this as more of a symbolic gesture. The Holy Spirit is refered to "like a dove" and when I read this passage this morning, I couldn't help but wonder if there is more God is wanting us to see here. | ||||||

Possilbe the other animals that he chased out represent tyranny and pride that needed to be whipped or chased out of the temple, and the Dove represents stop the worldly worship and teach more of the spiritual worship. Or it could simply mean don't sell books and merchandise about God in the temple. |
