Edb:In a survey done for Zondervan Book Of Life a decade or so ago, it was confirmed that less than 10 percent of all Christians, who were so called regular church attenders, read their Bible on a regular basis. Even less read their Bible every day! But I am convienced those that pray on a faithful basis daily are far and few. In mid week service how many really pray? Ever notice it's just a few? Our churches will change when we reach out and spend time showing by example, to believers what true fellowship with Christ is. That would include Bible study and prayer. I do believe the Left Behind books should be exactally that, left behind! I try and read authors that are conservative, and write about prayer, better ways to minister, and grow in my faith. The SHEPERD lOOKS AT THE 23RD PSALM is one such example of a book I recommend highly. Now, as to selling in a church or not, that is up to the church. In times when WOF and cults are so open we need to be able to know why we are not in line with such false faiths. So there is a place for that in a Christians life. However ballance is a key. Many love to hold and look at the Bible, it feels good! But study does not transfer by being next to the Bible, only by reading and prayer. I hope this makes my position more undersatndable. I do object to rummage sales, and all that. To me that shames the church! That tells the world we can't carry our load! In fact I don't believe churches should be tax excempt, because in a real way our government is help supporting our churches. I know people will say then we would lose our deductions! That is too bad, no one should know what you give except the Lord! I know that is a very risky and offending statement to some, but that's what I think is Biblical. agape, justme |

Justme I agree with most of what you said. I think one day the churches will lose their tax deductions and I believe it will change Christianity in America for the better. As to your argument that by putting books before the people it will help them overcome such things as WOF and etc. Isn't that what a pastor is for. When he sees a wolf he has to have guts enough to cry wolf and guard the sheep. He doesn’t let the job get done by books. Too many don't want to "judge' today so they say nothing. We have commercialized the church and that is what churches are now judged on. Things like who has the best praise and worship, the most entertaining speaker, the best programs, the most to offer. What happened to local churches that preached the Word of God and people came to edify, encourage and exhort each other. They got lost in the tape tables, book stores, conferences, special performances, and rummage sales. EdB |
