1 | Why did Jesus fold His Napkin/Facecloth? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214148
What was the significance of Jesus folding His Kerchief or facecloth? I have heard that it because it was according to Hebrew custom when eating a meal. When the Master of the meal was finished he tossed his napkin on the table to indicate that he was finished so the servants could eat. If he planned to return, he folded his napkin. Does anyone have any other suggestions or can they validate this explanation?
2 | Why did Jesus fold His Napkin/Facecloth? | John 20:7 | Val | 214149
Dear Pattycake, Since the scripture does not provide an explanation we can just say what it says and that is that it was rolled up in a place by itself. Sincerely, Val
3 | Does Hebrew tradition explain folded? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214154
I usually study scripture with scripture, but I was wondering if anyone knew particularly about this tradition and how that custom may have intertwined with scripture's detail. Thanks for your response. Angela |

4 | Does Hebrew tradition explain folded? | John 20:7 | wordoer | 214156
Hello Angela, The folded napkin is understood to mean that the Master is not finished. When sitting to eat the slave would stand by silently, and the Master would have his meal. If he put the napkin on the table in a manner (unfolded) meant that he was finished. Jesus left the napkin folded, He is not finished, He is returning. What a great message. wordoer |

5 | Does Hebrew tradition explain folded? | John 20:7 | Pattycake | 214158
Can you confirm this with authority? Do you know this to be true from tradition, historical record, manners and customs, personal exposure to Hebrew practices? I do not want to teach this as fact from a simple email I have received. It is a wonderful thought and the verse has glorious meaning for me, and I believe you, but I believe we must back things up for an unbelieving world so that they too can believe with a certain foundation. A fascinating fact as well would be that the rest of the garments were tossed aside. Our Savior was THROUGH with DEATH and Hell. He no longer had to deal with them and neither do we! He had paid the price. As far as we are concerned, He folded that napkin... He shall return... so we must lift up our heads... now more than ever 3/3/09..OUR REDEMPTION DRAWS NEAR! Be sure that you are saved… Be ready at any minute… Be diligent about growing in the faith… Be about the Father’s business of sharing the Truth to all you see… Blessings Angela |
