1 | Was Mary an apostle? | John 20:18 | Mommapbs | 95052
Greetings Makarios! Was Mary "sent by (and with) the authority of God" to bring Jesus' message to the "brethren?" If so, then she was an apostle - just like you or me, at times, and we are not Apostles either! What I believe that the Lord is trying to get through to me is to be more open to those to whom He has given His authority . . . male or female. Blessings, mommapbs |

2 | Was Mary an apostle? | John 20:18 | Makarios | 95055
Greetings Mommapbs, I believe that we really ought to provide a definition of what is meant by "apostle" to see if Mary fits the description or not. According to Luke 6:13, Matthew 28:19-20, and Acts 9:15-16, I believe that an "Apostle", or one who is commissioned as such, is a person who has been given a lifelong commission by the Lord Himself to carry out a specific task. Now, I guess that you 'could' argue that the Lord's direction to Mary in John 20:18 is something that she could have continued until her death, even though I do not see in this verse that the Lord had commissioned Mary with a specific "lifelong" commission that is a bit different or more encompassing than that which is requested of one who is simply a disciple. Therefore, I do not see Mary as being an "Apostle" or qualifying as such. Blessings to you, Makarios |
