Dear Carol, Let's not go beyond what Scripture says, nor fall short of all that it says. The Jews had a good deal of knowledge -- for "unto them were committed the oracles of God" (Romans 3:2b). They also had a good deal of belief -- from which stemmed their meticulous attempts to follow the Law (John 5:39). Their wisdom exceeded that of the wisest gentiles. Jesus explained why the Jews did not believe. He said, "Jesus answered them, 'I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of Me.
